I decided to break my project into 3 major parts, The first part being the contacting phase of my project. During this milestone I will be getting into contact with the Winnipeg Police Service, seeing what they offer in the realm of job shadowing and the possibility of a ride along’s. I contacted the WPS and I am currently waiting for a response. one of my other action steps was to research one forensic technique that I could later show the class, I chose to research Luminol Spray, Luminol Spray is used for blood evidence.

Around mid-May, I will be driving out to Banff and Jasper so I have to take that into account when making the timeline. luckily we are going on a weekend so I’m not missing too much class time.

The second milestone will be the job shadowing portion of my project. although I do not know at the moment what it is I am doing, I will have a clearer idea of what this milestone will entail by the end of the week. I am hoping to have some hands-on experience in this phase as well. I will also be taking an online course on criminal investigation to help further my research and knowledge. This milestone will have a lot of time outside of class. The job shadowing will be crucial for the final product of the project.

Then finally for the last milestone, I will be planning and hosting a mock investigation. Hopefully, I will take what I learnt and use it in the mock investigation, right now I can’t give too much detail on this investigation may be because I don’t exactly know what I’m doing yet. This milestone will be the most planned phase, due to its complexity and direr need for research and evidence to create the end product

I made sure there was a lot of structure into the planning on the milestones, every milestone depends on each other so it’s critical that they all get done on time so the project can continue to flow. for example, the mock investigation phase depends heavily on the job shadowing portion. the experience I get from the job shadowing will help in the planning of the mock investigation

During the Proof of Concept Period, you are supposed to show your skills and prove you are capable of doing that interest of yours for a whole semester. The POC went okay for me, I hit many obstacles throughout the process but I’m glad the obstacles were there because they helped me learn more about myself and what I want to do.

during the POC I learnt a lot of new stuff, from learning the basics of the program SketchUp, and about me and my wonderful procrastination skills. Around the middle of my POC, I lost all motivation, having no motivation made working VERY hard. This whole experience left me with one question, is this what I want to do? At the end of my proof of concept presentation, I said I had found my motivation again but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I felt extremely bad because I couldn’t make up my mind about my project.

But Now, I have the project I want to do. I want to do my project on Forensic Psychology and Law Enforcement. I know that’s a pretty big plate I’m serving myself but I feel like I’m ready for a challenge! At the moment I don’t really know what my Big Picture Goals are, I just need to talk to Mr. Hansen and Mr. Patrician so i can get a clearer picture of my project.

The first few weeks of Propel have been a pretty big change for me. I have met some amazing people who are not only talented but also very kind and welcoming. I must admit I was nervous for the semester to start. I have always been a very closed off and shy person and it was a pretty big change from regular school. Knowing that there would be a lot of presentations scared me, but at the same time, I was excited to build up my public speaking skills.

 

The first few days were uncomfortable and information heavy. Mr. Hansen and Mr. Patrician gave us a complete rundown on what the semester was going to look like. By the end of the orientation, my brain felt like it was about to burst. We also did a couple of team-building exercises and it a lot of fun! One of the exercises was going to a collection of escape rooms called “The Real Escape”. Me, being the tuff guy, I am, decided to be part of a room called “Mavis House”. The scariest room they had, and my oh my, how I didn’t know what I was getting into. I should’ve known it was going to be scary when we jumped watching the intro video. In the beginning, we were doing well in the solving of puzzles. We were even jamming to the “scary” music that they were playing throughout the room. But then it happened, a damn clown showed up in a mirror and scared the absolute crap out of us. Now you may be asking, did he come back? Oh, and let me tell you, yes, he did.  Occasionally, the lights would turn off, when this happened we would all just cower into the corner and hope for it to be over. It was horrible but was also amazing.

 

When the second week came along I had to start coming out of my comfort zone a little. We started the PSP (Public Speaking Program). I enjoyed the system that they had for the PSP. After every presentation, we had to fill out these feedback forms to talk about what we liked and what we thought could have been improved on. I enjoyed this because I crave feedback, any kind of small feedback can go a long way in the future of your learning.

 

The third week was by far my favorite. We were given a chance to explore the areas that we were considering for our projects. So far, I have been working with SketchUp, just playing with the mechanics and just trying to understand it better. I was able to come up with a basic design of a Liquor cabinet, and the interior of a room. I know for a fact that I want to pursue interior design for my final project.

 

So far, I’m enjoying Propel. I am ready to get working on a project I can be proud of and call my own, Looking forward to the future of my project!
